Those of us familiar with Ramayana (or indeed the TV show adaptation of the great epic) are most likely aware of the mythical bird, Jatayu, who dies attempting to save Sita from the clutches of Ravana. Jatayu, who plays a small but prominent role in the epic, has now earned a well-deserved spot of his own in Kerala. The spot where Jatayu is believed to have fallen after his mid-air battle with Ravana is now being converted into a nature park. The Jatayu Nature Park that is located on the road to Jadayupara in the Chadayamangalam village in Kerala is estimated to cost Kerala’s exchequer a cool 100 crore rupees. The Jatayu Nature Park is being touted as a one-of-its-kind park that is spread across 65 acres and will have several recreational facilities for tourists including a 6D (yes you read that one right) theater and a state-of-the-art cable car. So what makes the Jatayu Nature Park so unique?
1. The cable car ride
Touted as the biggest of its kind in south India, the 500 m passenger cable car ride will provide exhilarating views of the area and have state-of-the-art amenities. Tourists will be transported in special cars imported from Switzerland with a total passenger capacity of 400 people per hour and a functionality that adheres to international standards of safety.
2. The walkway
The walkway, which is under construction, will have several stone steps leading to the top. While the climb promises to be arduous, the breathtaking views should make up for all that huffing and puffing!
3. The adventure park
Under the guidance of trained professionals, the adventure park will host activities like paintball, laser tag, archery, air-rifle shooting, mountain biking, rock climbing, boldering, zip line, ATV rides, rappelling and much more.
Trekking up to the park at 1,000 ft will be an adventure itself.
4. Ayurvedic cave resorts
In-house ayurvedic packages coupled with an organic diet promise to make your stay at the park rejuvenating and memorable. The caves will be equipped with modern amenities but retain their primitive charm. And yes you can stay in them overnight once they are thrown open to the public.
5. The Jatayu sculpture
This will be the biggest attraction of the Jatayu Nature Park, quite literally! The sculpture of the mythical bid will be built over an area of 15,000 square feet and will be 200 feet long, 150 feet wide and 70 feet tall making it the world’s largest bird sculpture in the world!
The park is scheduled to open in January 2016.
